Transportation in China

China offers convenient and affordable transportation for both city travel and inter-city trips.

1. Taxi & Ride-hailing

Taxis and ride-hailing services are widely available, affordable, and easy to use.

Street taxis: Look for a taxi with the "空车" (Available) sign and wave from a safe spot.

Apps: Didi Chuxing is the most commonly used. Ride-hailing is also available via Gaode Map and Baidu Map.

Payment is usually made via Alipay or WeChat Pay.

2. Public Transportation (Metro & Bus)

Metro and buses are efficient and inexpensive in major cities.

Payment is typically made by scanning QR codes in Alipay or WeChat.

Cash is often not required.

3. High-speed Rail

China's high-speed rail is fast, punctual, comfortable, and the best option for traveling between cities.

Booking:

  • Official app 12306 (English interface available)
  • Third-party apps: Trip.com, Ctrip, Fliggy

Boarding: In most cases, passengers can enter stations and board trains by scanning their passport, without a paper ticket.

4. Bike Sharing / E-bikes

Bike sharing is convenient for short trips within cities.

Common brands: Meituan, Hello, Qingju

Note: Follow local traffic rules; cycling may be restricted in some areas.
