China has a long-standing, independent, and distinctive cultural system.

1. Politeness & Communication

Politeness, respect for elders, and social order are highly valued

Daily communication tends to be indirect; direct refusal or strong expression is less common

In formal or unfamiliar situations, people usually speak in a restrained and moderate manner

2. Dining Culture

Sharing dishes among multiple people is a common dining style

Hot food and hot water are widely served

Chopsticks are the main utensils; forks are usually available upon request

3. Time & Public Holidays

Major public holidays in China include:

  • Chinese New Year (January or February, the most important holiday)
  • Labor Day (May 1st)
  • National Day (October 1st)

In addition, winter and summer vacations are major long holiday periods.

During these times, travel and tourist attractions are often very crowded, and advance planning is strongly recommended.

4. Tipping

There is no tipping culture in China

Tipping is generally not expected in restaurants, taxis, or hotels

5. Public Behavior & Daily Customs

Smoking is usually prohibited in indoor and public areas
